Local councils to disinfect public areas in Covid-19 red zones

PUBLIC areas in Covid-19 red zones will be disinfected, senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

Cleaning and disinfection will be carried out by local councils with help from the Fire and Rescue Department.

“There will be cleaning and disinfection of public premises in hot spot zones. The local council will be assisted by the fire department and if necessary, the army also,” he said after chairing the daily ministerial meeting on the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia and the movement control order.

Red zones are defined as areas with more than 40 Covid-19 infections.

Selangor has the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 435 followed by Kuala Lumpur with 270 cases, including three deaths. 

Johor has 196 cases with five deaths reported.

In the Klang Valley, Covid-19 red zones include Titiwangsa, Sri Petaling and Lembah Pantai.

There are 1,796 infections in Malaysia.

Of the 172 infections detected yesterday, 71 are linked to the tabligh cluster.

As of yesterday, 45 patients were in the intensive care unit, with 34 on ventilators, while 199 have recovered and been discharged. – March 26, 2020.
