Indonesia president, cabinet to test for Covid-19 infection

INDONESIAN President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his entire Cabinet will be submitting to tests for Covid-19 test after a minister was found to be infected.

Yesterday, Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi was found to have tested positive for the coronavirus is now being treated at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta.

Jokowi said in a live TV broadcast from the Presidential Palace in Bogor today that he would be screened this evening .

Meanwhile, the number of positive covid-19 cases in Indonesia has risen to 117 cases.

Government spokesman Achmad Yurianto said there were 21 new cases today compared to 96 cases yesterday.

“Covid-19 fatalities in Indonesia remain at five while eight cases have recovered,” he said.

Jokowi advised the people not to panic amid the virus outbreak

“I am calling on all Indonesians not to panic and to stay productive. It is the time to work from home, study from home and even pray from home,” he said.

Jokowi urged the implementation of policies to enable school and university students to learn and civil servants to work from home. He also called for large-scale events to be cancelled or postponed.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in a statement said the limit on the number of vehicles entering the city has been suspended for two weeks to prevent the spread of the virus.

The exemption to encourage more to use their own vehicles instead of public transport. 

Yesterday, Anies announced schools and tourist spots in Jakarta would be closed for two weeks. – Bernama, March 15, 2020.
