THE Selena Gomez concert in Subang Jaya last year was the last straw for a Selangor PAS Youth activist who now wholeheartedly supports the move by the Islamist party to end ties with PKR.

Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim said by allowing the singer’s concert to go on in July last year, the PKR-led Selangor government had broken an important term of their tahalul siyasi (political cooperation).

One of the conditions of the tahalul siyasi was that PKR strengthen the position of Islam in Selangor. Aubidullah argued that

the state government had breached this condition by allowing the concert despite protests from PAS assemblymen.

He said this while debating a motion for PAS to sever ties with its political ally PKR. The motion was unanimously accepted by delegates at the PAS Youth assembly.

This is the party’s second wing which decided to end ties with PKR, which is its partner in the Selangor government. The party’s Dewan Ulama wing passed a similar motion yesterday at its own assembly.

More such motions are expected to be tabled at the Islamist party’s main assembly which starts tomorrow.

The motion at the PAS Youth assembly was brought forward by Kuala Terengganu delegate Abdul Rahman Che Mat who claimed that PKR’s insults against PAS had broken their agreement.

In supporting the motion, Aubidullah claimed that PKR was a party of opportunists.

“They only do things that serve that self-interests, such as mounting the Kajang move,” he said, referring to the 2014 PKR plot to remove its menteri besar at the time, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

“This is a party that does not care about what its partners say. When we protested the Selena Gomez concert, they did not listen to us and allowed it to go on.” – April 28, 2017.
