MUAFAKAT Nasional MPs do not support a unity government where DAP is a member, and prefer fresh elections to resolve the crisis following Pakatan Harapan’s collapse.
Umno and PAS, at a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre, said this was what their lawmakers told the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in private interviews today.
“We asked the Agong for his consent for Parliament to be dissolved,” said Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.
“In the current situation, the mandate should be returned to the people, and we asked that Parliament be dissolved so that the people can vote.”
This afternoon, 90 of the country’s 222 MPs were summoned for interviews with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The remainder will have an audience with the king tomorrow.
Sultan Abdullah is determining the stand of each MP as part of the process of forming a new government, following Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as prime minister.
Just weeks ago, Umno and PAS both expressed support for the 94-year-old statesman’s leadership.
Kuala Krau MP Ismail Mohamed Said earlier said the parliamentarians interviewed were asked to either name a prime minister candidate or state their preference for fresh elections.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the opposition has an obligation to voters.
“We have to correct what is wrong. We have 130 seats to form a coalition, not as Pakatan Nasional, but Perikatan Nasional.
“The people are concerned, and the best option is to dissolve Parliament and give the mandate to the people to choose a new government.”
MCA president Wee Ka Siong said the collapse of the PH government was its own doing.
“We have passed a resolution to give power back to the people to choose.
“We need to form a strong government that can revive the economy.”
MIC deputy president M. Saravanan said any pact that governs the country must have the people’s mandate.
“We need to give the right to vote back to the people since the system has collapsed.” – February 25, 2020.

It's obvious why there are some in UMNO/PAS would object to this.
But the competent ones are keeping their peace, and waiting to serve.
