SABAH today launched the Village Profile Application System to improve the governance of the Sabah Rural Development Ministry and enhance the performance of the ministry’s delivery system through digitisation.

The system, developed by the Sabah State Economic Planning Unit in collaboration with Sabah.Net is now being used at district offices and the application, among others, serves as a database for the development of every village throughout the state.

The system was launched by Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, and witnessed by Sabah Rural Development Minister Ewon Benedick at the 24th Sabah District Officers Conference in Kota Kinabalu today.

Also present were Sabah Deputy Chief Ministers Jaujan Sambakong, Wilfred Madius Tangau and Christina Liew.

Speaking at the event, Shafie said using technology in the state civil service should continue to be enhanced, to ensure that work can be done faster and prevent any delays, besides also helping to save on operating costs.

Shafie also reminded civil servants, especially district officials in Sabah, not to act on their own volition when carrying out their duties and responsibilities to meet the needs of the people, but instead cooperate and coordinate with representatives of the people to ensure more systematic and efficient work.

District officials should also outline every need and requirements of the people in their area before planning and submitting proposals to the government to ensure development and services are in the best interest of the people, he said.

At the event, Shafie also launched the Sabah Rural Development Strategic Plan 2021-2025 covering eight main thrusts, policy statements, strategies and programmes. – Bernama, February 24, 2020.
