THE Kedah government has awarded an international company a contract to draw up the development master plan for Kulim International Airport (KXP), said Mukhriz Mahathir.

Without disclosing details, the menteri besar said the award process has undergone a complete evaluation, and this took a long time to ensure transparency.

“Soon, we will make an official announcement on the awarding of the contract for the KXP master plan,” he said in Jitra today.

He said the state government is in the midst of acquiring land on which to build the airport.

Mukhriz previously said Kedah hoped that KXP could be operational by 2024, meeting the state and Penang’s cargo and logistics needs.

On March 19 last year, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that Putrajaya had approved the building of KXP, involving RM1.6 billion in foreign investment. – Bernama, January 24, 2020.
