42 deaths in first 3 days of Op Selamat 16


FORTY-TWO deaths due to road accidents were recorded in the first three days of Op Selamat 16 conducted in conjunction with the Chinese New year celebration.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Azisman Alias said of the total, 28 case involved motorcyclists and their pillion riders.

There were 4,971 road accidents involving 7,480 vehicles since the operation was launched last Saturday, he said in a statement today.

Azisman said Selangor recorded the highest number of accidents at 1,557 cases, followed by Johor (786) and Kuala Lumpur (548).

“A total of 70,804 summonses were issued during that period,” he said.

Op Selamat 16/2020, which is being conducted from January 18 until February 1, focuses on six major traffic offences, namely driving in the emergency lane, overtaking on double lines, using mobile phones, cutting queue, speeding and not obeying traffic lights. – Bernama, January 21, 2020.
