54 foreigners arrested in raid on Genting Highlands theme park

THE Pahang Immigration Department arrested 54 foreigners in a raid on a popular theme park in Genting Highlands yesterday.

Director Muhammad Hatta Kassim said 13 women are among those detained in the four-hour operation, which started about 3pm.

The foreigners, aged between 25 and 42, are believed to be theme park employees, with some working the front desk.

Hatta told reporters at the Immigration Department headquarters in Kuantan that preliminary investigations showed that some of those arrested came to Malaysia on social visit passes.

Eighteen of the detainees are Myanmar nationals, he said, and the rest are from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Nepal and the Philippines.

He said the department has conducted 75 operations in Pahang this year, and of the 484 foreigners checked, 282 were arrested for various offences. – Bernama, January 20, 2020.
