FORMER Anwar Ibrahim aide Muhammed Yusoff Rawther wants the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to explain its decision not to press charges against the PKR president for allegedly outraging his modesty.

Yusoff said today that the AGC must clarify what it meant by “contradiction of material facts” in announcing its decision, citing a lack of evidence.

Accompanied by his lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla, Yusoff said he was disappointed with the AGC’s decision not to charge Anwar, whom he alleges committed the offence on October 2, 2018.

“I’m terribly disappointed by the AG’s decision. I am angry that this is the decision that they have arrived at,” Yusoff told a press conference at Haniff’s legal firm in Kota Damansara today.

Haniff, who spoke for most of the press conference, said he has written to Solicitor-General Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek, seeking a meeting.

“The AGC’s 4th paragraph (of the press statement) needs to be clarified on whether the contradiction is by the complainant or otherwise,” said Haniff, adding the letter to the AGC was sent yesterday.

Meanwhile, Haniff said that he had yet to receive notice of any civil suits from Anwar’s lawyers, Karpal Singh & Co.

Haniff said that Anwar’s lawyers had written to him to ask if his firm was empowered to receive legal demands and he had replied ‘yes’ but added there had no communication since then.

Meanwhile, Yusoff was determined to fight Anwar’s anticipated civil suit.

On Tuesday, the AGC said it will not prosecute anyone in the matter concerning allegations made in Yusoff’s original statutory declaration.

“Upon careful evaluation of all the evidence, we found contradictions of material facts which could not support the prosecution of any person under section 354 of the Penal Code, or for that matter under any other section of the Code,” Engku Nor Faizah had said in the statement.

In November 2019, Yusoff alleged in a statutory declaration that Anwar had tried to force him to perform oral sex at Anwar’s home in Bukit Segambut. Yusoff similarly lodged a police report in December.

Yusof was a former researcher, who worked in Anwar’s office from September 2018 to May 2019.

Anwar has denied the accusation, saying he was busy campaigning for the Port Dickson by-election at the time. – January 17, 2020.
