CIVIL servants will not be allowed to hold any position in political parties, said Director-General of Public Service Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman.

He said this is in line with the government’s policy that those employed in the civil service should not be involved in politics or influenced by political parties.

“At a cabinet meeting on November 1 (last year), we decided that civil servants can be involved in political parties, but to ensure neutrality, they are not allowed to hold any position or contest any post,” he said after the Negri Sembilan assembly sitting in Seremban today.

Present were Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and state Secretary Dr Razali Ab Malik.

Khairul Adib said the details are being worked out, and a circular will be issued soon.

“The decision has been made. We are preparing a circular to ensure it is complied with. There are still some things to look into.”

He warned civil servants not to spread fake news about the government.

“We are looking at civil servants who spread untruths, (and) we will take action against them.”

Over the last three months, he said, the Public Service Department has taken disciplinary action against three government employees for spreading false information. – Bernama, January 3, 2020.
