THE three People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members who were allegedly assaulted by a “Datuk Seri” at a temple in Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur last Friday will be presented with commendation letters for their professionalism in handling the situation.
Its director-general, Zulkifli Abidin, said their patience and restraint, despite being threatened and assaulted, should be praised and be made an example for other Rela members.
“In appreciation of their commitment to their job, I will present each of them with a commendation today,” he said in a statement.
He said their attitude in handling the situation proved that Rela members adhered to noble values and avoided confrontation.
In the 6.30am incident last Friday, the three Rela members – Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19, Lee Weng Poh, 27, and Leong Jiun Jie, 21 – were injured on the head, eye and abdomen, when allegedly hit and kicked by the Datuk Seri.
The incident occurred after the Rela members requested the man to move his Toyota Vellfire as the vehicle was obstructing traffic. The man refused to do so.
Yesterday, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department head SAC Fadzil Ahmat said police had identified the suspect, aged 29, and urged him to surrender himself to facilitate investigation. – Bernama, October 30, 2017.
