Stay out of our seats at GE14, PAS warns ex-allies

IN the run up to its muktamar this weekend, PAS has warned its former allies not to poach its seats in the next general election.

Its deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said the Islamist party would not hesitate to mount multi-cornered fights against Barisan Nasional but also seats claimed by PKR in the last two general elections.

He was quoted as saying in The Star today that “our friends in Pakatan Harapan should heed this stand of ours if their main focus is to defeat Umno and Barisan instead of disturbing what belongs to us.”

Ibrahim was speaking after opening a Selangor PAS pre-election gathering at Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday.

The English daily also quoted state PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad as saying the party was prepared to contest all 45 state and 15 parliamentary seats in Selangor.

PAS is eyeing 20 state seats and eight parliamentary seats based on the formula set in GE13 when it was still part of opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat.

PAS left PR after falling out with DAP over party president Abdul Hadi Awang’s RUU355 bill, which seeks to enhance punishments in the Shariah Court.

The new opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan, consists of PKR, DAP, Parti Primbumi Bersatu Malaysia and a breakaway PAS party, Amanah.

PAS holds 13 seats in the Selangor assembly. – April 25, 2017.

  • The operative word is "ex-" for ex-allies. Now that PAS is with UMNO, Pakatan should have no compunction to contest PAS/UMNO seats. Can't wait to see PAS thrashed in Selangor!
