MUHAMMAD Yusoff Rawther, who accused Anwar Ibrahim of sexual misconduct, has lashed out at his granduncle for claiming that he had been manipulated to smear the PKR president’s image.

Yusoff said Mohideen Abdul Kader was a distant relative and would have no idea about the things that were happening in his life.

“This granduncle is someone I meet once a year. All of a sudden, he knows things that happen to me. People who are not part of my family, don’t get involved,” he told reporters said after being grilled for eight hours by the cops.

Soon after Yusoff had accused Anwar in a statutory declaration, Mohideen had said the family was not informed of the alleged sexual misconduct against him.

“The incident is supposed to have taken place on October 2, 2018, more than one year ago. Yet none of our family members, including his grandfather, who was very close to him, was told about this alleged incident,” said Mohideen in a statement last Friday.

Mohideen is the brother of the late activist SM Mohamed Idris, who was Yusoff’s grandfather.

Mohideen also said Yusoff has been estranged from the family since his grandfather passed away early this year.

Following Mohideen’s statement, Yusoff’s father Muhammed Ali Mohd Idris also slammed Mohideen’s statement, saying the family were aware of the alleged misconduct.

“My family would like to discredit and disavow the statements made by Mohideen.

“Our family were informed of the incident that took place either on the day itself or in close proximity to it, by my son himself,” Ali said in a statement.

On Saturday, Yusoff lodged a police report at the Sentul police station at 11.34am over the alleged incident that took place more than a year ago.

In a copy of the report made available to The Malaysian Insight, he said he wants police to investigate the incident involving Anwar as detailed in his statutory declaration dated November 19.

He has alleged in the statutory declaration that Anwar tried to force him to perform sexual acts at his home in Bukit Segambut on October 2 last year.

The statutory declaration was widely shared on social media and chat groups on December 4, the same time Yusoff held a press conference on the matter.

Anwar has dismissed the allegation, saying he was at an event to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi on the day of the alleged incident and was also busy campaigning in the Port Dickson by-election.

Anwar gave Yusoff 24 hours to clarify his accusation or face legal action.

However, Anwar’s lawyer Ramkarpal Singh could not submit the letter of demand to Yusoff as he no longer lives at his address in Penang.

“We cannot serve the letter because he is not staying at his address any more.

“We do not have any other information about him and we are currently checking with our sources about his whereabouts,” said Ramkarpal. – December 9, 2019.
