MOHAMED Azmin Ali’s camp has broken the temporary truce that was reached on Wednesday, said Chang Lih Kang.
“What happened today (fracas yesterday) was the result of certain parties not honouring their word,” the Tg Malim MP told The Malaysian Insight.
The PKR vice-president said both parties had reached an agreement on PKR youth’s decision to remove chairman Mizan Adli Mohd Noor and his deputy, Mohd Ramly Ahmad, during Wednesday’s meeting in Parliament.
The two were sacked as they have exceeded the age limit of 35 for PKR youth office-bearers.
Chang was shocked that more than 100 youths from outside PKR were sent to disrupt the youth congress twice at Malacca International Trade Centre yesterday.
“The Mizan issue was raised at the meeting. But after youth chief Akmal Nasir explained the matter, both sides came to a compromise.
“The deal was to have three PKR central leadership council (MPP) leaders – Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and Merbok MP Nor Azrina Surip – conduct elections for a new chairman and deputy.
“After that, the new chairman would take over the youth congress. That was the consensus reached on Wednesday. But then this happened,” said Chang, referring to the attempts by non-PKR members to force their way into the meeting yesterday.
“The worst part is that one of those who were in the meeting (at Parliament), Azmizam Zaman Huri, was among those who tried to force their way into the meeting.”
He said that Akmal had honoured his part of the bargain, which was to placate the youths after MPP decided to let Azmin officiate the youth congress.
PKR youth initially decided not to invite Azmin to officiate its congress.
“Akmal had to convince the youth delegates and he did that very well. Akmal was also reconciliatory during his speeches to the delegates.
“Yesterday’s incidents have really thrown the Wednesday’s deal out the window,” said Chang.
More than 100 youths wearing black T-shirts tried to force their way into the youth congress twice yesterday.
Although there were no arrests, several people had sustained minor injuries resulting from the tussles. – December 7, 2019.
