PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali will open the party’s national women and youth congress in Malacca tomorrow, the party’s political bureau decided after a closed door meeting this evening.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the decision was reached after the political bureau considered all views.

The result of this evening’s meeting, which was also attended by Azmin, overturned an earlier decision by the youth wing to have former party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail open its congress on Friday.

“The AMK (youth) congress and the women’s wing congress will be officiated by Azmin Ali tomorrow and will be closed by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Friday evening,” said Fahmi after the meeting today.

The parliament building was the venue of the meeting – the first one attended by Azmin and his supporters since the party election a year ago.

Among the Azmin associates who attended the meeting were Zuraida Kamaruddin, Tian Chua, Abdul Rashid Hasnon, Amirudin Shari, R. Sivarasa and Elizabeth Wong.

PKR Youth had previously decided to invite former party president Dr Wan Azizah to officiate at its congress instead of the deputy president, Azmin, as is normal done.

The wing accused Azmin of lacking discipline and ruining the party.

Asked on “another congress” said to be held in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend, Fahmi said there will be only one congress in Malacca.

He said several leaders, including Azmin, have confirmed that there will be only one congress.

“All leaders will attend except those who have official matters abroad,” he said.

He said this year’s congress will show PKR’s real strength.

“We will hear views from the leaders on the future of our party.” – December 4, 2019.

  • A big step forward! PKR must be big in Pakatan before DSAI takes over the baton in order to be able to carry on reformasi.
