ANWAR Ibrahim understands the issues that could arise in the lead-up to the handover of power from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Anwar said he understands the problems, and the need to reduce the tension raised by people making all kinds of suggestions on when the transfer of power will happen,” Dr Mahathir told reporters in Putrajaya.

He was commenting on his half-hour meeting with the PKR president at the Perdana Leadership Foundation earlier today.

In a statement after the meeting, Anwar said Dr Mahathir has not changed his mind about the power handover and regrets that some quarters are trying to twist the situation to suit their own ends.

He said the leadership transition was among the matters discussed between the two.

“Dr Mahathir’s stand on the transfer of power is the same as mine, as agreed by Pakatan Harapan, and of which he has repeatedly given his assurance.

“I told him that the transfer of power must be done in a peaceful and orderly manner within an agreed timeline.

“We disagree with attempts to deviate from the handover agreement, and attempts to use my or Dr Mahathir’s name for any sinister purposes.”

The Port Dickson MP said he and the prime minister agreed to focus on economic growth and preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Summit, to be held in Kuala Lumpur next year.

He said Dr Mahathir also took note of allegations against certain ministers who have handed out contracts to gain support. – November 21, 2019.

  • Malaysians by the millions want to transfer to take place immediately. We cannot trust the present PM. We have seen the manipulation to try and secure BERSATU political position. This is a Malay party , which inherently does not go with the spirit and intent of the new Malaysia. Additionally, his policy of segregation rather than integration of races is poisonous. Malaysia does not need that-we want the REAL PM of Malaysia-Anwar Ibrahim to take over. Better to cut the Cancerous Bersatu now than allow it to grow. We dont want Mahathir's son or Hussein Onn son to be involved in Malaysian politics. Enough of these dynasties. There is nothing difficult about power transfers. We beat UMNO. Until Mahathir instructs the investigation, and arrest of Raib in Sarawak, Malaysians have ZERO ( read lips) ZERO trust of Mahathir Mohamed.

  • If this is true let DSAI say it himself. TDM has the bad habit of speaking for others. We can all see where this habit leads and where ir comes from. Anybody can say things like my siblings understand the inheritance issues so they gave me everything.
