POLICE have obtained new images of several people who were at the scene when fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was attacked by a mob during the Sri Maha Mariamman temple riots last year.

“We have obtained new pictures and have identified several people who were at the temple when the crime happened.

“We will follow up and if they are not found, we will ask the media to help,” Federal CID director Huzir Mohamed said, adding they will also recall seven key witnesses who testified in the inquest into Adib’s death, some of whom will have to take a lie detector test (polygraph).

The inquest concluded that Adib died due to blunt force trauma to the chest.

“We will use a polygraph machine. These seven men were near the crime scene when the incident happened.

“We are also looking forward to record statements from UK-based forensic pathologist Prof Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid and Universiti Teknologi Mara mechanical engineering senior lecturer Dr Amir Radzi Ab Ghani,” he told the media in a press conference this afternoon.

Dr Shahrom told the inquest previously that he disagreed with findings suggesting that Adib’s chest injuries were the result of him being knocked down by a fire truck.

He said it was more likely that the firefighter had been pulled out of his vehicle and beaten.

Amir Radzi, an expert in physics, testified in support of Shahrom’s calculations of the impact of the blows that caused Adib’s injuries.

In September, Shah Alam Coroner’s Court ruled that fireman Adib’s death was the result of a criminal act.

Coroner Rofiah Mohamad said the blunt force trauma to his chest was not caused by an accident but by two or three persons who had dragged him out of the emergency medical rescue service vehicle.

Adib, who was attached to the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department, died from the injuries sustained during a riot on November 27 at the Sri Maha Mariamamam temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya.

An inquest commenced at Shah Alam Coroner’s Court on February 11.

The coroner heard the testimonies of 30 people comprising firemen, doctors, witnesses and forensic experts.

Police initially detained four men as suspects but they were released after investigators found no links to connect them to the case.

The incident caused an uproar among pro-Malay groups, who demanded that Attorney-General Tommy Thomas resign after he had previously said the fireman’s death was a result of an accident. – November 20, 2019.

  • Seven random Indian men will be picked up for questioning.
How many men like them have already died in the past under suspicious circumstances while under police custody?
Will there be forced confessions to fit the results of a discredited inquest by a clearly incompetent Coroner?
All this to satisfy Maruah Melayu?

  • At the IJN, Adib was recovering. He looked good. But a long stream of visitors wearing street shoes and clothes were allowed into the ICU, carrying germs, bacteria, etc. Did the IJN follow the SOP of allowing visitors into an ICU? Wasn't there any breach of ICU protocol by the IJN? Has any investigation been carried out into this? My belief is that he would have recovered if not for the "attack" on his weakened immune system. The Ministry of Health should comment on this.
