GABUNGAN Parti Sarawak (GPS) components have no intention of rejoining Barisan Nasional despite the former ruling coalition’s massive win in the Tanjung Piai by-election yesterday.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu vice-president Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the decision of four state-based parties, including his, to leave BN and set up GPS after the 14th general election last year was a wise one.
“When we were with BN, we couldn’t even talk about our successes. But now, we are free to, and they have to listen to us,” he told reporters in Kuching today.
He was asked about the possibility of GPS parties returning to BN after Wee Jeck Seng’s landslide victory in the six-way fight for Tg Piai.
The MCA man polled 25,466 votes to Pakatan Harapan rival Karmaine Sardini’s 10,380. Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam got 1,707 votes, Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (850), and independents Ang Chuan Lock (380) and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar (32). – Bernama, November 17, 2019.
