PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim has given tacit approval for PKR youth to challenge deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali over officiating its upcoming events, according to Zuraida Kamarudduin.
The PKR vice president said Anwar, as the party chief, could do anything he wanted.
“There is no conflict. The tradition dictates party youth and women’s wing meetings are opened by the deputy president.
“However, if the president has given his approval, we have no choice but to leave it.
“The president has the power to do whatever he likes,” she was quoted as saying by news portal Free Malaysia today.
PKR Youth does not want Azmin to officiate its congress on December 6 at the Malacca International Trade Centre and withdrew the invitation it had sent him.
Azmin, who has not been attending party political bureau and central leadership council meetings, has slammed the decision, saying it is an effort to shut him up by hidden hands in the party.
“This is unprecedented, political parties usually ask the deputy presidents to launch women’s and youth congresses, while the presidents go for the main congresses,” he said.
Azmin said he confirmed his attendance after receiving the invitation.
PKR youth chief Akmal Nasir said there were no unseen forces involved in blocking him from officiating the youth wing’s congress next month.
Akmal said Azmin need not look far to search for any hidden hands because Azmin was to blame for the situation.
“His absence from party’s leadership council and political bureau meetings for a year, and his statements which are usually in conflict with the leadership are the hidden hands that are actually destroying PKR,” Akmal said on Friday.
He also said Azmin was at fault for not responding in time to accept the invitation to officiate the congress. – November 17, 2019.
