THE Education Ministry has introduced two new compulsory courses for students in public universities beginning this year, said Education Minister Maszlee Malik.
The two subjects – Philosophy and Current Issues, and Ethics and Civilisations – are aimed at increasing the students’ thinking skills and moral principles.
“Both these courses are compulsory for public university undergraduates and they can take it any time during their study period,” said Maszlee in a Facebook posting today.
He added that these two courses will be introduced in the 2019/2020 academic year.
He said the courses were introduced to produce graduates with higher-order thinking skills and good moral grounds so that they can solve the problems in the community.
Previously undergraduates had to sit for the compulsory Islamic and Asian Civilisation course. – September 26, 2019.
