PAS has indicated interest in striking up a political partnership with Sarawak’s ruling parties in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), The Star reports.

Sarawak PAS state commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said his party was ready to take up the fight for Sarawak’s rights.

“PAS has often been labelled an extremist Islamist party. This label is unfair.

“PAS is willing to work with any party and with other races if they are willing to accept our party policies,” he was quoted as saying today.

Last week, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and secretary general Takiyuddin Hassan met with Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg in Miri to discuss the possibilities of working together in the state elections expected to be held next year.

PAS said the visit was proof that PAS, which had just formalised a pact with Umno, was willing to work with a multiracial party.

“Sarawak is in the same position as Terengganu and Kelantan on the oil royalty issue.

“The Pakatan Harapan government has failed to fulfil its general election promise to give us 20% oil royalty.

“PAS will fight for Sarawak in this matter, ” Jofri said.

Jofri, who is on the PAS supreme council, said Hadi met with the state leaders during the September 16 Malaysia Day celebrations hosted by the Sarawak government. – September 22, 2019.
