THE Congress of the Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) hopes that its negotiations with the government will continue on the mechanism for new appointments in the public service, should Putrajaya decide to abolish the pension scheme.

President Azih Muda said this is to ensure civil servants’ welfare is protected.

“Cuepacs is shocked by the Public Service director-general’s statement that new appointments may no longer be made under the permanent and pension schemes starting next year.

“If the proposal is implemented, Cuepacs is of the view that the aim of having youth serve in the government… is no longer a priority,” he said in a statement to Bernama yesterday.

Director-General of Public Service Borhan Dolah earlier this week said beginning next year, the permanent and pension schemes may be replaced with an improved contractual plan.

The new scheme, which is being refined, will purportedly offer civil servants better pay, protection and security.

Azih said Cuepacs is concerned about civil service employees’ welfare, and in this regard, it views the pension scheme as “the best for the country and in line with the constitution”. – Bernama, September 7, 2019.
