THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is ready to investigate the WhatsApp chat group through which a set of sex videos implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali were distributed, said Al-Ishsal Ishak.

The MCMC chairman said that anyone in the WhatsApp group who had received the clip allegedly involving the minister could file a report with the MCMC through its WhatsApp at 016-220 6262.

He said this method has helped speed up enforcement against those found distributing sensitive content through WhatsApp in the past.

“You can take screenshots, along with the individuals’ phone numbers, for the purpose of the complaint, and send them to us.

“The MCMC is ready to investigate all complaints, regardless of the individuals involved, including dignitaries,” he said in Cyberjaya today.

Al-Ishsal added it would also cooperate with the police should it receive a complaint.

After a few months respite, half a dozen more sex video clips implicating Azmin was released on social media today.

As before, the clips were shared in a WhatsApp chat group, albeit a new one.

The group, comprising more than 80 media members and politicians, called “Video Terkini Azmin (Azmin’s latest video)” was set up at 3.35am today.

Six clips about three-minutes long were shared. They appeared to be edits from the same video shared with reporters in June, and which have continued resurfacing since on various channels, including YouTube.

Politicians added to the group included Defence Minister Mohammad Sabu, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub.

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam was also in the group.

In June, the series of sex clips released featured two men in bed together. The scandal it caused has since appeared to have died down, before today’s development.

Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz had admitted he was in the video, and claimed the other man was PKR deputy president Azmin. Haziq has since been booted from the party.

He had said the video was recorded without his consent in a Sandakan hotel room in May.

Azmin has denied being the man in the clips, which he described as an attempt to end his political career.

In July, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador had said Cybersecurity Malaysia found the video to be authentic but facial recognition failed to link Azmin to one of the two men featured in it.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed also assured that the case was still being investigated under Sections 377B and 292 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

Sections 377B and 292 of the Penal Code deal with carnal intercourse against the order of nature and the dissemination of obscene material, respectively. Section 233 of the CMA pertains to the improper use of a network service or application.

Earlier this week, the police said investigation papers had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action. – September 5, 2019.

  • People are sick and tired of this drama. One drama after another... Earlier Azmin Ali, then it was Zakir Naik, now back to Azmin...
This chaos thats being created appears to be intentional to keep the authorities and ministries busy so that they are distracted from doing their work and fulfilling the pledges in their manifestos.. At this rate, they (ministries) will never get any strategic work done! MCMC, roll out your IR4.0 initiatives, digitalisation plans, launch faster internet speeds and packages.. quickly become on par with Singapore and HK.. If local support is not capable, invest in foreign expertise to develop and roll out plans, and provide training for local resources.. Enough of talk la, get down to business..

    • Get your priorities right MCMC. Let the police investigate dnd catch the culprits.. This - going after culprits- is not your priority and not your job... Let the police handle while you focus on your own initiatives..
