NORA Anne Quoirin died from a ruptured intestine caused by starvation, police said today, ruling out foul play in the Franco-Irish girl’s death.

Negri Sembilan police chief Mohamad Mat Yusof said the post-mortem revealed that the 15-year-old died two to three days before her body was found.

Nora Anne’s body was discovered on Tuesday afternoon in a ravine in the dense Jeram Toi rainforest near Seremban in Negri Sembilan, after a 10-day hunt involving hundreds of people, several helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs.

She was found missing from The Dusun eco-resort on August 4, a day after checking in for a holiday with her London-based family.

Mohamad said Nora was not raped as alleged by certain quarters.

Speculation online also suggested that Nora might have been taken by Orang Asli but police had rubbished that theory.

“That is not true. So far, we have not found evidence of criminal elements.

“The cause of death was due to internal bleeding caused by a rupture in her intestines as she was not able to find food for days.

“She was also under severe stress as a result of being lost in the jungle.”

Mohamad said there were wounds on her feet but those were not the cause of death.

He added the family, from Balham in south London, has yet to make a request to claim the body.

Nora Anne leaves behind sister Innes, 12, and brother Maurice, eight. Her mother Maebh, 45, is from Ireland, and father Sebastien Philipe, 47, is French.

“They can leave (the country). Police are not stopping them but they have yet to make a request for the body.

“It is up to them. We will assist,” said Mohamad.

Nora Anne was said to have left her room at the resort through an unlocked window.

Police had ruled out abduction since day one as there was no indication that she was forcibly taken.

None of her belongings were missing and rescuers were baffled as to how the girl who has learning difficulties was able to walk into the jungle without leaving a trace.

Sources confirmed that the spot where the body was found was searched before but there were no traces of her.

A group of volunteers found the body in a small stream with reports indicating she was found “resting with her head on her hands”, as though she was asleep.

Her remains were flown to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban while the autopsy conducted yesterday took more than 10 hours.

Prior to the discovery of the body, her family had announced a reward of almost RM50,000 for information leading to her return. – August 15, 2019.
