Let Pakatan leaders deal with Dr Mahathir, PKR tells Pasir Gudang MP

PASIR Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim should focus on his work a day after asking Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to quit over his inability to handle mounting problems in the country, said his party PKR.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he told Hassan to let the Pakatan Harapan leadership council deal with Dr Mahathir’s leadership.

“I have asked him to focus on issues affecting the people,” he was quoted as saying in news reports today.

In a statement yesterday, Hassan called on Dr Mahathir to step down and hand over the reins to Anwar Ibrahim to ensure PH’s survival.

This was the only way to prevent the ruling coalition from breaking up like its predecessor Pakatan Rakyat d id, as the Sarawak elections loom, Hassan said.

“I hope Tun Dr Mahathir will take a bold step like British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill, who relinquished power after leading the British and the Allies to victory against the Axis, namely the Germans and Japanese in World War 2, and handed the post of prime minister to other leaders.”

As one of the coalition component leaders who signed a letter to the Agong endorsing Dr Mahathir for the top job, Hassan said he is of the view that it is time for the PM to step down

“It’s clear that he can no longer handle a lot of issues,” he said.

The former Johor PKR chief said Dr Mahathir appeared to have lost the ability to take criticism stemming from his treatment of hot issues related to race, religion and royalty.

Hassan was commenting on Dr Mahathir calling Dong Zong “racist” for opposing the government’s plan to teach Jawi and khat in vernacular schools. – August 15, 2019.

  • He lost his objectivity again after trying hard to cotrect his old habits. This is dangerous bcos racial and religious issues will over dominate other real problems rakyat are facing now. Do the right things for the country, don't focus on minor issue like Khat. PM should not spend a second on Khat issue if he is concerned about the country progress. But he choose to take a big stick on Ding Zhong again. We knew what and how u labeled this organization and exploded it to gain Malay support in the past. Don't do it another time, we will totally lose trust on u, Mr Mahathir.
