POLICE have searched several houses and carried out criminal background checks for some residents of Kg Pantai, Seremban, where British-born teenager Nora Quoirin went missing last week.

Negri Sembilan police chief Mohamad Mat Yusof said police were looking for possible evidence of a kidnapping.

“Yes, we have gone to several houses and we conducted checks on the background of some people in the vicinity, including those with criminal records.

“Still there has been no evidence of abduction. We have also talked to taxi drivers to see if they saw a foreign girl being taken away,” he said.

Mohamad also said so far none of the villagers in the small town had seen Quoirin.

“We don’t have evidence of that,” he added.

Quoirin disappeared without a trace last Sunday from her room at the Dusun Pantai Hill eco-resort after arriving for a two-week holiday with her parents and two siblings the previous day.

Police said she left her villa clad only in her undergarments and no one has seen her since.

This morning, the girl’s mother, Meabh Quoirin, thanked security personnel involved in the search-and-rescue mission of her daughter.

Meabh, together with her husband Sebastian, acknowledged rescue workers’ efforts while the search operation enters its seventh day.

It was the couple’s first public appearance since their daughter went missing from her bedroom at the forest resort last Sunday.

In today’s mission, 317 personnel were deployed including dozens of elite Vat 69 commandos.

Police have lifted several fingerprints from a window left ajar at the villa but have not disclosed their findings.

Rescuers are also broadcasting recordings of Meabh’s voice in a bid to lure the teenager out of Jeram Toi rainforest, which sits next to Gunung Berembun.

Police are still treating the case as missing persons, despite the family’s suspicion that Nora was abducted. – August 10, 2019.
