MOHAMED Nazri Abdul Aziz today reminded Najib Razak that the latter was the one who attacked tycoon Robert Kuok in defence of Barisan Nasional.

The Padang Rengas MP said he only took the cue from the then prime minster when he attacked Kuok, saying that it was wrong to blame him for the coalition’s loss of support among the Chinese at the last elections.

“If you remember, he (Najib) was the first to make that statement. He accused Robert Kuok of getting projects from government but in the end, not supporting the government.

“My statement was in defence of his. I was defending him,” Nazri said at the Parliament lobby as he continued taking swipes at the Pekan MP today.

Nazri also defended himself by saying MCA was already losing support among the Chinese and his attack on Kuok wouldn’t have made much difference to the party in the last elections.

“Regarding MCA, they didn’t lose because of my statement. They lost because the Chinese did not support them.”

From 31 seats in 2004 to 15 in 2008, then seven in 2013, the party was reduced to one seat in GE14.

Party chief Dr Wee Ka Siong is the sole MP, holding the Ayer Hitam seat.

“So the trend of declining support among the Chinese was already there. Either way, they were going to lose irrespective of what I said about Kouk,” Nazri said.

The former tourism and culture minister has gone on the offensive since Najib was appointed to the BN advisory council chairman, adding that it was a regressive step.

He was joined by Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, who protested against Umno’s decision to bring Najib back to the forefront.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it was not wrong to make use of Najib’s experience.

Yesterday,  Nazri and Khairy once again questioned the need for Umno to rely on Najib, blaming BN’s loss in GE14 on the latter.

Reacting to the attacks hours later, Najib said BN partners were also unhappy when Nazri was made the coalition’s secretary-general.

“We are all aware that previously, he was asked by MCA and MIC to let go of the position as BN secretary-general,” said Najib. – July 15, 2019.

  • Nasri, dont put the blame to Najib. He might be the wiping boy now, but heaping blame on him, a more or less defenseless is wrong. You attacked Robert Kuok then, you didnt say you were doing it under the instruction of Najib. So, you did, and did it on your own. Idiot.
