ANOTHER “Muslim-only” laundrette has been found, this time in Perlis, and state mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin says he will investigate it, The StarOnline reports.

Asri, who was one of the vocal critics against the “Muslim-only” laundrette in Muar, said he has been instructed to investigate the matter.

“I have received an instruction from Tuanku (the Raja Muda of Perlis) to investigate the matter and we will do it right away,” said Mohd Asri, who is also known as Dr Maza, in a WhatsApp message to The StarOnline today.

The self-service laundrette, found on Jalan Kampung Bakau, Kuala Perlis, also carries a sign that says: “This laundry is dedicated for Muslim use only”.

Additionally, the shop has a sign that says the shop practises “Islamic laundry concept”.

According to the owner, he opened the laundry to serve Muslims only. He told The StarOnline that it was done for the comfort of Muslim customers.

He also asked non-Muslims to use other laundrettes and said the matter should not be politicised.

This is the second self-service laundrette found with “Muslims only” signs following the one in Taman Seri Cempaka in Muar.

But the owner has since apologised for his actions and opened it for all following a royal dressing down by the sultan of Johor on Tuesday. – September 29, 2017.

  • All these are only after effect reactions. The extent of such religious extremes are festering without any check at all due to the Government using religion as their political tool and this embolden the wanabees extremist. Will all the states Muftis have the courage to tell off the Governmant to leave aside religion from the politics and not to "sandiwara" only after Royal Instruction decree them to do so? We are seeing some of the Muftis are better in their role as Village Head Politicians rather than a cleric adviser.
