Putrajaya must stop spread of religious liberalism, says PAS

PAS has called for Putrajaya to halt the spread of religious liberalism, saying the ideology is a threat to Muslims and the position of Islam in the Federal Constitution

The Islamist party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this is because liberals believed all religions are the same and have equal status in law.

“We have always respected the rights of non-Muslims and never forced non-Muslims to accept Islam, but liberal ideas are very dangerous because they say all religions are the same,” he said in his speech during the launch of the PAS Youth assembly in Gambang, Pahang today.

“They say all our rights are the same but the Federal Constitution has already placed Islam as the official religion on the federation. So, I urge the government to stop the spread of liberal ideas.”

Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Kubang Kerian MP, said the “enemies of Islam” have been eroding Muslim’s trust in their local shariah laws and their ulama (scholars and jurists).

“There is a plan to weaken Islam, to make Muslims distrusts our own laws such as our inheritance laws, and to create a generation who distrust our type of politics.”

“Just look at how they insult our ulama such as what they’ve written about Zakir Naik, (PAS president) Abdul Hadi Awang and (Egyptian theologian) Yusuf Al Qaradawi.”

After his speech, delegates and attendees at the PAS Youth assembly expressed solidarity with Zakir, the Malaysia-based Indian Muslim preacher who is wanted in his home country on money-laundering and terrorism charges.

India has submitted a formal extradition request for Zakir but Putrajaya wants assurances that he will not be jailed before he is convicted.

Malaysians have been split over his extradition as there are two online petitions for both arguments. – June 19, 2019.

  • Wahai PAS until to date today malaysian govt is Protecting the muslims. Sit down for a moment n think where Muslims are today inspite being Pampered n Protected. We Non Muslim DONT NEED GOVT PROTECTION bcoz we are Self Reliant n we beleive in GOD IS OUR PROTECTOR not Human.

  • How to judge which religion is better? What's the standard used? Muslims will think islam is the best so as the chriatians will think his reLigion is the best. So the best choice is don't compare, both are the best to each. By whatever standard used, no religion followers will think his reLigion is second best. So all the religion followers are hypocrites and non pragmatic non logic thinking folks.

  • The Constitution says that Islam is the religion of the federation. It does not say that Islam is superior to all religions in the federation.

  • Its not the governments job to tell people what to believe. It is up to the individual. The government must uphold the constitution where Islam is named the official religion but thats it. Dont forget that Sarawak does not have Islam as its religion. Its not liberalism to state facts.
