Hamid won’t obstruct probe into Special Branch over missing activists

POLICE won’t obstruct a special task force which will investigate Special Branch, accused of being involved in the disappearance of two activists, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.

SB is accused of being directly involved in the abductions of pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat more than two years go.

This was the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia’s conclusion (Suhakam) after a year-long public inquiry into their disappearance.

The Suhakam report disclosed that individuals or groups operating with the support of state agents, namely Special Branch from Bukit Aman, were involved in the abductions.

Following the report, Putrajaya said a special task force will be set up to conduct fresh investigations into the disappearance of the two men.

Hamid told The Malaysian Insight he has nothing to hide and won’t set up barriers when the task force steps in.

“The disappearances happened when I was away. I was not in the force at that time.

“However now I will go along with it since the Home Ministry has pledged to form a task force,” the IGP said.

Hamid was transferred out from the police force in 2015 before the two activists were reported missing. He was then SB deputy director.

Amri, who headed the organisation in Perlis, disappeared on November 25, 2016 while Koh was abducted by a group of men on February 13, 2017.

Hamid said after the Suhakam report was made public, he decided against conducting an internal probe for fear it would “mix things up”.

“Since Putrajaya had announced they will order for fresh investigations by a special task force, I decided to wait for the announcement.

“There will be objection from my part and there will be no barriers. Once the task force is announced, we will start working on it.”

Suhakam said both Amri and Koh were victims of forced disappearances.

It said that direct and circumstantial evidence in both cases proved the probability that they were abducted by state agents, namely Special Branch. – June 14, 2019.

  • Bukit Aman SB directly involve in ABDUCTION OF CIVILIANS is a BLACK HISTORY FOR PDRM . SB WAS SUPPOSE TO CATCH CRIMINALS NOT ABDUCT INNOCENT CIVILIANS WHO DID NO CRIME . PDRM is no longer any organisation to Rely for Help n Aid in Need It has become a GANGSTER DEPT. Thanks to IGP to revive PDRM GANGSTER DEPT.

  • X files, will we ever know the truth. Its good to hear that you will not obstruct nor interfere with the second findings. Moreover since both you and your predecessor were once the Director of PDRMs Special Branch.
