DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang will quit politics if Dr Mahathir Mohamad fails to hand over the prime minister’s post to Anwar Ibrahim ahead of the 15th general election.

Lim said this was his wager with acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan who recently cast doubt on the agreement that Dr Mahathir would hand over power to Anwar as agreed by all Pakatan Harapan parties.

“If Mahathir does not pass the prime minister’s post to Anwar and instead dissolves Parliament to call for an early 15th general elections, I will retire from politics and will not contest in the 15th general election.

“If Mahathir keeps to his word and passes the prime minister’s post to Anwar, then Mohamad will withdraw from politics and will not contest in the 15th general election. Let us give Mohamad two days to decide whether to accept this wager with me,” Lim said in a statement.

Last night, Mohamad had told a ceramah crowd in Sandakan that based on Dr Mahathir’s character, the PH chairman would not hand over power to Anwar, who is PKR president and Port Dickson MP.

“Trust me, I know I have worked with the ‘grandpa’ long enough. He won’t make it easy. He would rather dissolve Parliament and call for a fresh election even before the term is up,” Mohamad said at a ceramah in Bandar Lee Tat.

Lim said by making such remarks, the opposition was merely hoping that PH would crumble and disintegrate.

“I have more confidence in Dr Mahathir and I am prepared to have a wager with Mohamad that Dr Mahathir will honour the Pakatan Harapan commitment to pass the prime minister’s post to Anwar,” the Iskandar Puteri MP said.

The subject of Dr Mahathir’s handover of power to Anwar continues to be doubted by several quarters, even though both leaders had repeatedly said they will honour the agreement.

Dr Mahathir recently said in an interview, in conjunction with PH’s first anniversary in power yesterday, that this may take “two, three years” as he wanted to resolve major problems for the government first. Anwar has also reiterated to the press that an agreement was made and would be honoured. – May 10, 2019.

  • LKS -- a good play !!!! Now the Mohammad Hasan boy has to live up to your challenge. If not he is a coward and balless to be an effective opposition leader.Similar traits in all the Umno leaders to date. Mere talks and no substance. Do not be surprised you will have a another unknown hero wannabe to in for to take up your challenge. Typical coward play to divert the heat. If they talk too much somemore than show hand with Mahatir to throw the challenge.

  • I trust Tun Mahathir more than Mohamad Hasan because people who have knowledge, don't predict. Those who predict, don't have the true knowledge. Sadly to note a person like the status of Mohamad Hasan, who claimed to have worked with Tun for a long period, could now cast doubt on the personal integrity of Tun? I hope Hasan will accept the said wager with LKS if he has the confidence with his prediction?
