SULTAN Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s attempt at making peace with Putrajaya was a good move but the Johor palace must stop interfering in the affairs of the state administration, said Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Bersatu president said that for ties to heal, the monarch must admit he had contributed to the tension between the state and Putrajaya.
“The sultan must agree that he has done certain things which have created uneasiness.
“Intervening in the affairs of running the state – that, too, has to be stopped.
“Not that the sultan cannot intervene – he can at times – but disturbing the administration of the state must be stopped,” he was quoted as telling reporters in Petaling Jaya today after chairing a Bersatu meeting.
Muhyiddin said what had happened was not good for the country.
“It is not personal. I suggest the Johor menteri besar and the state government discuss with him as to what needs to be done and what needs to be cleared so that once and for all, we work as Malaysians and things can be settled,” Muhyiddin was quoted as saying.
His comments come after Sultan Ibrahim earlier today suggested that Putrajaya and the state should meet and hold discussions to resolve differences between them after a series of exchanges over the recent change in menteri besar.
The sultan said now that the new menteri besar and his executive council line-up had been put in place, it was time to move forward and work for the betterment of the people.
“I hope all parties will work together and ensure the state administration runs smoothly.
“If there had been any clash or misunderstanding which involved the ties between Johor and the federal government, I suggest we put aside any differences over the matter.
“It is best everyone meet and hold discussion in a mature manner for the sake of the people,” he said in a statement.
The sultan’s statement comes amid controversy over the reshuffle to the Johor executive council, which the federal cabinet said should remain unchanged.
On April 13, former Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian told the media that Sultan Ibrahim, while accepting his resignation, decreed the exco be reshuffled by his replacement, Sahruddin Jamal.
The new exco members are Tosrin Jarvanthi and Mohd Solihan Badri from Bersatu and Tan Chen Choon from DAP.
They took their oath of office on Monday. – April 25, 2019.
