UMNO Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam will be charged tomorrow over last week’s fracas between a group of his party members and Universiti Malaya students in Bangsar.
A letter from the police sighted by The Malaysian Insight states Lokman is expected to be charged in court in Jalan Duta at 9am.
In a Youtube video post, Lokman said he has receiving the letter, calling it selective prosecution by the Attorney-General Tommy Thomas.
“I have just received the letter today. It is a letter confirming that three others and I will be charged tomorrow following the fracas at Restaurant Amjal,” he said in the video post.
Last Friday, a group of students protesting against Najib Razak was attacked by the former prime minister’s supporters
The students were holding a demonstration across the road from where Najib was holding a meet-and-greet session, near Universiti Malaya. The protesters held up placards and an oversized cut-out of a clown’s face that was supposed to be a caricature of the former PM
Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim earlier today said the investigation papers on the were have submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers yesterday and that a decision has been made to prosecute.
Mazlan said police recorded the statements of 28 persons in connection with the case.
“Follow-up action to press charges against those who violated the law will be taken,” he was reported as saying. – March 27, 2019.
