A FORENSICS expert told the coroner’s court today that deceased firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was most probably hit by a door of a reversing vehicle to his back, which caused the fatal injuries that led to his death.

Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, a forensic medicine specialist who carried out Adib’s post-mortem, told the courts that in his opinion, the “most probable” cause of Adib’s injuries was an impact from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle as it was backing out during the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riots in Subang Jaya.

“If indeed the deceased was outside the vehicle, standing with his back facing the EMRS, the rear left side of his ribs were hit by the edge of the front left passenger seat’s door frame as the vehicle was backing up,” he said.

Ahmad said Adib’s injuries on the left side of his ribs were caused by an impact from something straight, thin, and hard.

“This is consistent with the edge of the door hitting his rear. The edge of the door is straight, hard, and thin,” he said, adding that the first seven of Adib’s hind ribs had suffered fractures.

“The fractures on his hind ribs match the profile of the door because his fractures were sustained in a thin, straight line,” he told coroner Rofiah Mohamad.

Ahmad said he had been asked by the police to attend a reconstruction of the riots to ascertain how the firefighter sustained his injuries after being briefed on what happened that night.

He said that as a result of being hit on his back, the force caused Adib to lurch forward and fall on a hard and wide surface, which also injured his right rib cage.

“The impact from the door frame caused the deceased to lurch forward and fall, which caused him to hit a hard and wide surface on which his torso scraped, causing fractures in his front ribs.

“He had most probably collided with a hard, raised surface, most likely the road curb,” he said.

Ahmad said that scratches on Adib’s right knee and left elbow were also consistent with him falling forward as a cause of the impact.

He also told the court that the second, third, fourth, and fifth ribs on the right front of Adib’s body were broken, with the third rib broken in three places and the fourth in two places.

Ahmad said that the broken fourth and fifth ribs had pierced his right lung, causing him to have lung failure, subsequently causing his death.

Ahmad, the 24th witness in the inquest to Adib’s death, was answering questions from DPP Hamdan Hamzah.

He said that it was inconclusive to say if Adib was pulled out of the vehicle or he came out on his own.

He also added that the incident happened in about approximately 10 seconds.

Adib succumbed to injuries on December 17 at the National Heart Institute.

Medical witnesses said he died due to multiple organ failure.

Today is day 16 of the inquest. It continues with Ahmad’s testimony next Tuesday. – March 22, 2019.

  • The DG of fire services who held a press conference (immediately after the accident) with the so called ERMS personnel to testify to say he was the one behind the vehicle, must be questioned and charged or fired for lying and covering up the incident.
This is a very serious offence... because of his action to immediately deny and pass the blame on the Indian community had serious repercussions that threatened the unity and racial harmony in the country.
The chief of Fire Services should be immediately hauled up and investigated for his lying. He should be given early retirement or sacked from the force. The country doesnt need people like him.. a true traitor! The erms officer who collaborated the incident should also be charged in court and sacked.

  • This is not the outcome that PAS and Umno protestors were looking for. It is possible Adib was killed by one of his own team member.

  • In the minds of the already decided, the late Adib's death was of only one cause. They don't care about the truth. Any decision other than theirs is pure made up.

The same group of people hails a thief as their boss. They look up upon someone who is a crook, steals from people, have no qualms to harass people and even taking out people who are deemed opposing to them.

They call themselves the true defender of their race. A shameless race.
