THE government will act against those who insult religion and cause disharmony, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He described as dangerous the recent incidents where Islam was insulted, adding that they have caused anger among Muslims.

The incidents include insulting messages against the religion shared on social media.

“Those who commit these heinous acts should be arrested according to provisions under the law, charged in court and punished if found guilty,” Muhyiddin said in a statement today.

The Pagoh MP slammed the act of placing a statue of a deity known as “Datuk Gong” at the entrance of the Sabilul Huda surau in Port Klang on Wednesday.

“It was clearly done with bad intentions, to insult Islam and cause disharmony in the country.”

He said he has instructed Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun to investigate the incident and act against the culprits.

The statue was stolen from a house near the surau.

Police are carrying out a probe under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a place of worship with intention to insult religion.

On the man who allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad in a Facebook post last week, Muhyiddin said: “The suspect in this case has been identified, and police have completed their investigation.”

On Tuesday, Pahang police chief Mohd Zakaria Ahmad said the 68-year-old suspect was picked up at his house in Mentakab and handed over to police in Batu Pahat, where reports against him had been lodged.

He was yesterday freed on bail. – February 23, 2019.

  • WHY NOT THOSE WHO INSULT THE NON-MUSLIMS ALSO? Any action against racists / racial and religious rowdies must be both ways. Be fair to the non-Muslims also. Be a Malaysian see that no one (Muslims and non-Muslims alike) are not insulted. It sounds like it is OK to insult the non-Muslims. Please clarify whether non-Muslim sensitivities don't need to be given the same status as Muslims sensitivities!

  • What about Zakir Naik who insults non-Muslims on a regular basis? Are you still treating him like a hero?
I don't expect the 'Malay first, Malaysian second' Minister to understand this.
