Dr Mahathir in Austria for 3-day visit

DR Mahathir Mohamad has arrived in Vienna to attend two anti-graft events, namely the 10th Annual General Conference and General Meeting of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and a lecture at the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA).

The prime minister, who is on a three-day working visit to Austria, touched down at Vienna International Airport about 4.15pm local time (11.15pm Malaysian time).

He is accompanied by his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

On hand to welcome the couple were Deputy Foreign Minister Marzuki Yahya and Malaysian Ambassador to Austria Ganeson Sivagurunathan.

The highlight of Dr Mahathir’s trip is his keynote address at IAACA, themed “15 Years of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, Accomplishments and Prospects”, at the Vienna International Centre on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to deliver a lecture at IACA, themed “Fighting Corruption in Malaysia: Achievements, Challenges and Perspectives”, tomorrow.

Dr Mahathir is due to meet Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz at the Federal Chancellery and President Dr Alexander Van der Bellen at Hofburg Palace, as well as the Austrian business community and Malaysian diaspora.

He last visited Austria in 1985, during his first term as prime minister. – Bernama, January 20, 2019.
