THE Pahang state government has withdrawn a government-owned vehicle used by a political party to campaign in the Cameron Highlands by-election, said Pahang state secretary Sallehuddin Ishak.

Sallehuddin said the vehicle was initially requested for use by a federal deputy minister, but was abused as a party’s logo was later placed on it.

“I would gladly explain that the said department was allowed to lend the vehicle to a ministry for a deputy minister’s official use.

“However, after the party’s logo was pasted, I ordered for the vehicle to be immediately taken back,” he said in a statement today.

He said that after he was asked by social media users why the state government’s car was used for a campaign with a political party’s sign on it.

The Cameron Highlands by-election was held after its incumbent, Barisan Nasional’s C. Sivarraajh, was not allowed to contest due to bribery in the 14th general election.

The by-election will be a four-cornered fight between BN’s Ramli Mohd Noor, PH’s M. Manogaran, and two independent candidates, Sallehudin Ab. Talib and Wong Seng Yee. – January 20, 2019.
