The power struggle between Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Mahathir Mohamad is being fuelled largely by people around them, partly due to a lack of trust on both sides, says Bridget Welsh. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 14, 2019.

THE leadership succession plan between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim is not being handled well, despite repeated assurances from both leaders, said political scientist Dr Bridget Welsh.

Welsh, a visiting senior fellow at HELP University, said it was clear there was a power struggle between supporters of both factions, as evidenced by the ongoing defections within parties of the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

  • PH win just because of DR.M aura...when BERSATU together with DR.M come to PH...this is the reason PH can win in last PRU....so give DR.M a chance to be a PRIME MINISTER until next general election....DSAI surely can understand the mood of the citizen that is strongly agree if DR.M be a prime minister till next PRU...we can see how our economy transformation under his leadership just below 1 year...so DSAI give DR.M nore time...for sure you can wait...or you can be a deputy prime minister again and help out DR.M to steer our country to be great again

    • Another excuse for not honouring the PH GE14 Manifesto. An election Manifesto is a series of promises to voters and should form the platform for the new Government. Yet, we see and hear daily excuses after excuses for not honouring promises ... UEC, ICERD, Abolition of toll, repeal of Sedition Action and other repressive laws, and now this? The promised term was for two years after which Anwar takes over ... please do not continue to add to our disappointment and disillusionment. Looks this is a Government that breaks more promises than it honours !
