PAKATAN Harapan leaders must stop their preoccupation with whether Anwar Ibrahim will be made the next prime minister, and should focus on fulfilling the aspirations of the people, said Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin said Pakatan Harapan was given the mandate to govern in the 14th general election (GE14) as voters wanted to see an improved economy and reduced cost of living, and not because Malaysians wanted to have their new leaders fight over politics.

He was responding to questions on Anwar’s recent interview with the Financial Times, where the PKR president admitted there are saboteurs in PH seeking to derail the plan for him to take over as prime minister.

“The agreement in PH before GE14 is that (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) will be made prime minister and after that, it will be Anwar Ibrahim,” Azmin told reporters today.

“This agreement stands, just that, in my opinion, about the sentiments of the people, stop this talk, because our focus should be on the economic development of the country, reducing the cost of living of the people, ensuring the people get the best care.

“This should be the responsibility of the government of the day. We focus on the development of the country and kill all these political chatter.”

Azmin said it was his responsibility as a member of the cabinet to support Dr Mahathir in placing the economy as a priority, and not to engage in politicking.

“We just completed the 14th general election, and this is the first time in 61 years that all Malaysians irrespective of race and religion, decided to change the government.

“That is why we are responsible to respect the wishes of the people, fulfil their aspirations. Why did they want change?

“It’s not to ask us to engage in political battles. Stop. People are sick and tired when the political leaders keep on speaking about politics.”

Claims of a plot surfaced when PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli’s allies, during the PKR polls campaign, said Azmin did not want Anwar to become prime minister. –  January 6, 2019.

  • The politicians are busy politicking! Thats what they are good for.... to ensure their status and positions are secured, and spend two-thirds of their political careers fighting (for positions) and the remaining third working for the Rakyat!
DSAI is worried and obsessed.. and he is trying to ensure the decisions he makes are to ensure his pending premiership is not derailed..
Sometimes its a wonder... whether he is capable enough to be PM..
He really doesnt have the charisma and far cry of the qualities of Dr M to become the next PM..

  • Please do not talk like you care for the people. What have you done so far as a minister? Sitting in your ivory tower playing politics more than you are on the ground doing things for the people as you so proclaimed. Honestly the last thing you care about is the people. Trying to be magnanimous by saying all you care about is the rakyats welfare. If you care about the people you shouldnt be pitting your people against anwars people. PKR should be strong and united to bring the country forward so the people can have better lives.
