CONTAMINATED fuel due to a leakage in the fuel tank was the cause for vehicles stalling soon after refuelling at Petronas station in Solaris Besraya this morning.

Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) said its investigation found leakage in one of the fuel tanks at the station, which has contaminated the fuel with water.

Immediate remedial actions were taken to flush out the contaminated fuel and isolate the affected tank, it said in a statement.

“Petronas Dagangan is pleased to announce that the said station has now resumed operations,” it added.

It said it had carried out thorough checks and fuel integrity tests at all pumps at the station.

“The team will remain on site today and tomorrow to render any further assistance required.”

Earlier today, Petronas Dagangan said it will compensate 20 customers whose vehicles had stalled shortly after fuelling up at the Solaris Besraya petrol station.

The national oil company apologised for the incident, which it blamed on “product mishandling” at the station.

“We are already in contact with the affected customers and will take the necessary measures to compensate them accordingly,” said Petronas Dagangan in a statement.

Social media is abuzz with videos and audio clips warning people to avoid the petrol station. – December 28, 2018.
