POLICE have identified the instigators of last week’s riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The home minister said more people will be picked up to facilitate investigations.

“Police have information, and some of them have been picked up. Action has been taken against some of them. More arrests will be made,” he said after a monthly meeting with police at Bukit Aman today.

“The public’s cooperation in this case has helped. Regarding fireman Adib, a witness has come forward, and we have a better understanding of what happened,” he said, referring to Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was seriously injured in the violence at the house of worship in USJ25, Subang Jaya.

Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said 83 people have been arrested in connection with the riots.

He said police are tracking down more suspects, as well as witnesses.

Yesterday, Bukit Aman said it is seeking 28 witnesses to help in the probe, with federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd urging them to come forward.

He said those with information on witnesses can contact Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat at 019-6000-903, Subang Jaya police headquarters’ CID chief, G. Shan Gopal, at 019-2714-387, or the nearest police station.

The unrest, stemming from a land dispute between the temple and a private developer, saw masked men clashing with devotees and multiple vehicles set ablaze.
