Two suspects linked to sub-inspector's murder turn themselves in

Two men believed to be connected to the killing of a Bukit Aman policeman in Changlun on Friday have surrendered themselves to police, The Star Online reported today.

Mohd Hatta Johari, 30, and Mohd Najib Budin, 36, have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), in Jitra, Kedah, today.

Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun granted the remand order.

The two were arrested after they turned themselves in yesterday, said Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim.

There are now three suspects in custody over the murder of sub-inspector Abu Hashim Ismail, 54, who was gunned down about 10.25pm on Friday at a house in Taman Sri Hosba in Changloon.

The 35-year-old owner of the house, who was an acquaintance of Abu Hashim, was remanded yesterday.

Abu Hasim is said to have been gathering information on smuggling and underworld activities in Bukit Kayu Hitam, a Kedah town near the Thai border.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Asri Yusoff said Abu Hashim was chatting with his friend on the porch of the house on the corner when shots were fired at them by a gunman.

Abu Hashim died at the scene after taking four shots in the back while the friend had managed to duck under a table.

Police found five bullet casings and three bullet slugs at the house.

Abu Hasim’s body is at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.

A special team from Bukit Aman that includes the Special Taskforce on Organised Crime has been deployed to Kedah to help in the investigation and manhunt.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar vowed yesterday to bring the murderers  to justice. – August 20, 2017.
