BUKIT Aman has yet to get information on the Malaysian woman detained at Vietnam’s Tan Son Nhat Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle in 4kg of pure cocaine.

Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Mohmad Salleh confirmed that the woman was detained by Vietnamese authorities on Wednesday.

On the woman’s identity, he said: “We have yet to get details from our Vietnamese counterparts. Maybe on Monday.”

He said the woman had arrived in Vietnam from Brazil, with a transit in Dubai.

“The drugs were from Brazil, and were supposed to be smuggled into Vietnam.”

It was earlier reported that the woman was busted after customs officers found two nylon-wrapped bags of white powder hidden in the lining of her luggage.

The powder tested positive for cocaine.

During interrogation, the woman admitted that she was asked by her boyfriend to transport the drugs from Brazil to Vietnam for US$1,200 (RM5,021).

If found guilty of drug trafficking, she faces a life sentence or the death penalty. – December 1, 2018.
