MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers searched the home of former Felda Global Ventures (FGV) Bhd chairman Isa Abdul Samad in Selangor late last night.

MACC Chief Commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad said a search of the suspect’s residence was standard operating procedure following the arrest of the suspect.

“It is a normal process.. after arrest (detention)  we will conduct inspection at the house (of the suspect),” he told reporters after the signing of a Kelantan Corruption Free Pledge (IBR) of Non-Government Organisations and Parent and Teacher Associations (PIBG) organised by the Malaysian Corruption Observers yesterday night.

About 250 activists took part in the event.

Dzulkifli said MACC would apply for a remand order for Isa in the Putrajaya Court today.

Isa, who is acting Land Public Transport Commision chairman, was detained when he presented himself at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 2.40pm yesterday today to answer questions related to Felda Investment Corporation (FIC)’s purchase of hotels in London and Kuching.

Last month, MACC opened an investigation paper into FIC’s purchase of a hotel in Kensington, London, in 2014, at a price allegedly substantially above market rates, which caused the Felda subsidiary to suffer losses amounting to millions of ringgit.

Subsequently, MACC opened another investigation into FIC’s purchase of a hotel in Kuching, for which it again allegedly paid too much.

In another development, Dzulkifli said MACC would file an appeal to the Appeals Court for a remand order for Penang Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh.

The remand order obtained by MACC against Phee was revoked by the Penang High Court on Monday.

“The Attorney-General’s Chambers has agreed to file an appeal on behalf of the prosecution tomorrow,” he said. – Bernama, August 16, 2017.
