THERE was no hacking of tablets used in PKR’s e-voting in the Julau branch yesterday, outgoing Wanita head Zuraida Kamaruddin has said, and the party’s election managers should instead take responsibility for what she claimed was an inside job.
Disputing statements by central election committee (JPP) chief Rashid Din and deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli about the hacking of 1- tablets, Zuraida said only someone from the JPP who knew the tablet passwords could have accessed them.
She was referring to Rashid’s claim that the tablets had been infiltrated with the ‘Prey Anti-Theft’ software.
“JPP has to take full responsibility as only someone from JPP who has a password can access the tablet and download software.
“This can easily be traced and JPP must reveal who did this,” Zuraida said.
She added that Prey was not a “malware” (a worm or virus) as alleged but a software used to protect and not steal information as claimed by Rashid.
This led to the Julau results being suspended.
Zuraida said it was not possible for an outsider to hack the system and instead claimed that it was an inside job by the JPP.
She urged the JPP to reveal who had access to the tablets as it was all recorded in a log file on the tablet.
“Each time this person enters the system, the information of the “event” is recorded in the system’s log file.
“I call on Rashid Din and the JPP to release all this information as soon as possible to prevent further mistrust and rumour-mongering,” Zuraida said.
Yesterday, Rashid said at least 10 tablets were hacked after Rafizi complained of the tampering.
Rafizi said the unauthorised application – which Rashid described as “Prey Anti-Theft” software – was designed to “wipe out votes” on the tablets.
The app could only be installed physically, he added.
