AS many as 10 tablets used in the e-voting process in the Julau PKR division elections today have been hacked, said PKR’s central electoral committee.

Committee chairman Rashid Din said the results of the division had been suspended as such and would only be released after all 20 tablets used are fully operational.

“There are several tablets that have been affected. We are temporarily suspending the results for at least four of the tablets.

“There will be a streamlining of data after the tablets are functional. We are also investigating the cause of the cyber attack and if it has happened in other divisions holding the party elections,” he told The Malaysian Insight when contacted.

The committee will also lodge a police report against the hacking of the Julau division polls.

Earlier in a statement, Rashid said the online voting system failed to function properly around 2pm.

“During the inspection, there were 10 devices that were infiltrated with ‘Prey Anti-Theft’ software.

“A report was sent to get the feedback of the committee’s cybersecurity team in Petaling Jaya,” he said.

Rashid also said he was informed the software was used to delete the e-voting software, steal data, change passwords, and remote control the tablets from a far.

Early investigations found the software was uploaded manually into the tablets around 4am at the Julau division.

PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli, who was in Julau, had claimed he knew who tampered with the tablets.

He said he had furnished the committee with videos and evidence of the “malicious spyware”.

The former Pandan MP’s team will also lodge a report, reported Malaysiakini. – November 10, 2018.
