BERSATU members have handed over three suspects believed to be involved in the fracas at the Nothing To Hide 2.0 forum, where Dr Mahathir Mohamad spoke earlier today, to the police.

Shah Alam police chief Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said the suspects were between the ages of 17 and 19, adding that one of them was a college student from Shah Alam.

“We haven’t decided what to charge them with yet, because no one has yet to lodge a police report,” he said, adding that no serious injuries were reported in the incident.

He also pointed out that the forum organisers are responsible for public safety, but added that the organisers had notified police of the event 10 days earlier as required by law.

The forum was organised by Bersatu Youth (Armada) as a platform for the former prime minister and Prime Minister Najib Razak to debate issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

Najib did not turn up at the event held at the Selangor Youth and Culture Complex in Shah Alam this afternoon.

Dr Mahathir’s lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said the suspects disrupted the forum by throwing shoes, slippers and chairs, and lighting flares.

Dr Mahathir, who is Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu chairman, was on stage for close to 90 minutes when mayhem ensued.

“There are a few people who have been detained for further investigation,” Haniff said, adding that Bersatu will lodge a report to assist in the investigations.

At least two men were manhandled by Bersatu security personnel, said the party’s Shah Alam division chief Hamidi Bakar. – August 13, 2017.
