Kedah exco's son killed in tragic accident

THE son of Kedah State executive council member Aminuddin Omar was among two people killed when the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a tree at KM12.7, Kampung Bendang Perang near Jitra, Kedah today.

Muhammad Irfan Aminuddin, 20, and a friend, Wan Khuzairi Wan Chik, 27, died at the scene, said Kedah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Supt Mohamed Mustakim Mukhtar, in a statement today.

He said the crash occurred about 4.30pm when Wan Khuzairi, who was driving a Toyota Hilux, lost control, skidded and crashed into a tree during a downpour.

Firemen were called to extricate the victims from the mangled vehicle, he said, adding that the bodies were sent to Jitra Hospital.

Aminuddin, who is State Youth and Sports Committee chairman, and wife, Faridah Hanafiah, 43, were at the hospital to claim their son’s bodies, but declined to be interviewed.

However, Aminuddin’s special officer, Shafarizan Baderon, said Irfan and Wan Khuzairi were studying at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Merbok and were on their way from Changlun to attend a friend’s wedding ceremony when the crash occurred.

He said Aminuddin was attending the Kubang Pasu Umno Youth delegates conference when he (Aminuddin) received news on the crash involving his son.

Meanwhile, Wan Khuzairi’s father, Wan Chik Yahaya, 51, said he was informed of the crash about 5.00pm.

“It has been a week since I last contacted him, the oldest of three siblings, and at 5.00pm today, I received a call from his friend who informed me about the accident,” he said.

Both the victims would be buried tonight.

Muhammad Irfan would be buried at a Muslim cemetery here, while Wan Khuzairi in Kampung Padang Chenderang, Kuala Nerang. – Bernama, August 12, 2017.
