MYPPP president M. Kayveas is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds which were moved from Umno to his party, The Star reports today
MACC has called up the senior Barisan Nasional leader for questioning, said the report.
It said the MyPPP deputy secretary-general Simon Sabapathy had confirmed the investigation, and that he had been contacted by MACC this morning for financial documents.
“He (the MACC officer) said they were looking for funds that were transferred from Umno to MyPPP during his (Kayveas’) time.
“I informed him that if there were any documents, they would either be at the party headquarters or a storage unit in Subang where Kayveas’ personal belongings have been kept since he was evicted,” Sabapathy was quoted as saying in the report.
MACC’s investigations into misuse of 1MDB funds have so far seen former prime minister Najib Razak charged with a litany of charges.
The MACC earlier today arrested former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who will be charged tomorrow with abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust in connection to a family-run foundation.
Meanwhile, Kayveas was seen at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya about 3.20pm.
He later told The Malaysian Insight he was there to lodge a report over the transfer of funds from Umno to MyPPP during the period he was out of the party for a short while.
He added that he would be issuing a statement on the matter later. – October 18, 2018.
