ANWAR Ibrahim said his victory in Port Dickson is a milestone and a vote of confidence for the Pakatan Harapan government and its reform agenda.
Speaking to the media after being announced as the winner, Anwar said he was “extremely pleased and humbled by the results”.
“This win is more convincing than what was observed in the last general election when the popular vote for our candidate was 48%, but now we have achieved a remarkable 70% of the popular votes,” he said.
He added that he was satisfied to have garnered support from all ethnic groups.
“I must express my profound appreciation.”
Anwar, who is now expected to be sworn in as MP on Monday, said he spoke to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after winning the by-election.
“He was pleased with the results,” he said, adding his appreciation to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for campaigning in Port Dickson despite his health problems.
The main task now, he said, was to focus on assisting “our leaders in Parliament to ensure we embark on all effective parliamentary reforms”. – October 13, 2018.
